При удалении файла geokit_config.rb, запускается сервер, но я очевидно, имеют:

proxy_addr/порт/пользователя и проход был заменен только прокси который является строкой, как:

https://user:password@host:port 

Так что, если вы имели:

config.geokit.geocoders.proxy_addr = nil 
config.geokit.geocoders.proxy_port = nil 
config.geokit.geocoders.proxy_user = nil 
config.geokit.geocoders.proxy_pass = nil 

Это теперь:

config.geokit.geocoders.proxy = nil 

PS. Вам не нужно переключаться с geokit на geokit-рельсы, и они отличаются друг от друга. geokit-rails - это geokit PLUS некоторые вещи для рельсов, например act_as_mappable.

Если вам не нужны геокит-рельсы перед обновлением, вам это не понадобится после. Он просто добавляет дополнительные элементы, которые являются рельсами, если вы хотите их.
